buddhabrot-go

A Buddhabrot plotter written as a Go learning exercise.

This plot took about eight minutes on an eight-core machine using the parameters below.

Usage

You'll need to the MySQL root password. Create a file in the root of the repository called .env and set the contents to DB_ROOT_PASSWORD=yourchoice.

In the same directory run docker compose up --build, which starts a web server on port 3000. The parameters used to plot the image are posted as JSON, and a PNG image is written to the response. If set to true, the dumpCounterFile property wil dump the orbit counts per pixel to a file called counter.txt in the log directory.

If put in a file called params.json, it could be posted with:

This is included in the samples directory in a file named request.sh along with the JSON file above, so to test the plotting you can run:

./request.sh > sample.png

Note that the plotting is CPU intensive and blocks the request until complete. I plan to use RabbitMQ as a work queue and perform the plotting asynchronously.
