README

AWS SDK for Go code examples for AWS Lambda

Purpose

These examples demonstrate how to perform several AWS Lambda operations.

Prerequisites

You must have an AWS account, and have your default credentials and AWS Region configured as described in Configuring the AWS SDK for Go in the AWS SDK for Go Developer Guide.

Running the code

ConfigureFunction/ConfigureFunction.go

This example enables an Amazon S3 bucket to send notifications to an AWS Lambda function.

go run ConfigureFunction.go -f FUNCTION -a ARN

  • FUNCTION is the name of the AWS Lambda function.
  • ARN is the Amazon Resource Name (ARN) of the S3 bucket sending a notification to the function.

The unit test mocks the service client and the AddPermission function.

MakeFunction/MakeFunction.go

This example creates an AWS Lambda function.

go run MakeFunction.go -z ZIPFILE -b BUCKET -f FUNCTION -h HANDLER -a ROLE-ARN -r RUNTIME

  • ZIPFILE is the name of the zip file, without the .zip extension, containing the AWS Lambda function code.
  • BUCKET is the name of an Amazon S3 bucket in the same AWS Region as the AWS Lambda function.
  • FUNCTION is the name of the AWS Lambda function.
  • HANDLER is the name of the method within your code that AWS Lambda calls.
  • ROLE-ARN is the ARN of the function's execution role.
  • RUNTIME is the identifier of the function's runtime.

The unit test mocks the service client and the CreateFunction function.

RunFunction/RunFunction.go

This example executes an AWS Lambda function.

go run RunFunction.go -f FUNCTION -f FUNCTION [-m MAX-ITEMS]

  • FUNCTION is the name of the AWS Lambda function to call.
  • MAX-ITEMS is the maximum number of items to retrieve. This argument is optional, and if not supplied, defaults to 10.

The unit test mocks the service client and the Invoke function.

ShowFunctions/ShowFunctions.go

This example displays a list of your AWS Lambda functions.

go run ShowFunctions.go

The unit test mocks the service client and the ListFunctions function.

Notes
  • We recommend that you grant this code least privilege, or at most the minimum permissions required to perform the task. For more information, see Grant Least Privilege in the AWS Identity and Access Management User Guide.
  • This code has not been tested in all AWS Regions. Some AWS services are available only in specific Regions.
  • Running this code might result in charges to your AWS account.

Running the unit tests

Unit tests should delete any resources they create. However, they might result in charges to your AWS account.

To run a unit test, enter the following.

go test

You should see something like the following, where PATH is the path to the folder containing the Go files.

PASS
ok PATH 6.593s

To see any log messages, enter the following.

go test -test.v

You should see additional log messages. The last two lines should be similar to the previous output shown.
