README

scum: Secret Credential Utility/Manager

scum

DISCLAIMER: This is a personal proof of concept. Please use this only if you are aware of this...

Many CLI tools used to work with API's use some kind of credentials file to store secrets. Usually these secrets are unencrypted and must therefore be managed very carefully.

scum encrypts those secrets with your SSH keys (everybody has some of those). It allows you to perform common maintenance operations such as key rotation or key locking.

It also allows you to mount a pseudo file system containing (a subset of) your credentials for a short period of time.

Installation

From soucre:

Make sure you have go installed, then run:

go get -u github.com/unprofession-al/scum
Usage

You need to prep some directories first (can be configured, see below):

# this is where your encrypted credentials live
# feel free to version control that dir in order to
# share between computers.
mkdir ~/.scumbag/

# you also need a place to mount your credentials and link
# the actual credenential files to (such as ~/.aws/credentials)
# by default thats...
mkdir ~/.scum/

Now you are all set:

# scum
Secret Credentials Utility/Manager

To customize the configuration run:

mkdir -p ~/.config/scum
scum config > ~/.config/scum/config.yml
vim ~/.config/scum/config.yml

Delete the lines you are happy with (means you accept the defaults) and change the lines you don't like,
